JAC T9 EV Pickup Truck Debuts in Malaysia – 340 km Range, Dual Motors, Priced Under RM200k.

The JAC T9 EV, alongside its diesel-powered counterpart, the T9 Grand ES, has been showcased in Malaysia, introducing electric propulsion to the double-cab pickup segment. Like its diesel sibling, the T9 EV is fully imported (CBU) from China and will be offered at an introductory price of under RM200,000 for the first 100 customers who book before December 31, 2024.

The T9 EV shares the same dimensions as the diesel model, measuring 5,330 mm in length, 1,965 mm in width, and 1,920 mm in height, with a 3,110 mm wheelbase. The cargo bed is also identical, measuring 1,520 mm in length, 1,590 mm in width, and 470 mm in height.

Both models feature the same 27-degree approach and 23-degree departure angles, though the EV version offers a slightly lower ground clearance of 205 mm. Externally, the T9 EV can be distinguished by blue JAC badges on the front grille, highlighting its electric nature.

Powering the T9 EV is a dual-motor setup, consisting of a 160 kW (218 PS) motor at the rear and a 70 kW (95 PS) motor at the front. Together, they generate 516 Nm of torque, enabling the vehicle to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.4 seconds, with a top speed of 140 km/h.

The JAC T9 EV draws energy from an 88 kWh LFP battery, offering a WLTP-rated range of 340 km. It supports DC fast charging of up to 88 kW via a CCS2 connector, enabling a 30-80% recharge in just 35 minutes. For AC charging, it uses a Type 2 connection with a capacity of up to 11 kW, allowing a full charge from 15% to 100% in six hours and 50 minutes.

Like the diesel-powered T9, the EV version rides on two-tone 18-inch alloy wheels with 265/60R18 tires and features disc brakes at both the front and rear. It also retains the dual recovery tow hooks on the front bumper, along with the sports bar and side sill rails.

However, the T9 EV omits a few features found on the diesel model, such as front parking sensors and roof rails. The showroom model showcases the front motor exposed under the hood where the diesel engine would typically sit, but production units will include a fully finished engine bay with a storage compartment.

Inside, the T9 EV mirrors its diesel counterpart with a seven-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad. It also includes a cooled center console storage box for added convenience.

The T9 EV differs from its diesel counterpart in front seat features, as it offers electric adjustment only for the driver’s seat, while the diesel model provides power adjustment for both front seats. Additionally, the EV replaces the traditional transmission lever and 4WD selector dial with a single rotary selector.

Like the diesel-powered T9, the EV version includes a comprehensive suite of ADAS features, such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control with integrated cruise assist, lane-keep assist, blind spot monitoring, a driver monitoring system, and intelligent high beam control.

In terms of passive safety, the T9 EV matches its diesel sibling with seven airbags, including a front-center airbag. Both models have earned a five-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

The T9 EV is available in five exterior colors—red, black, dark grey, silver, and white—with interior leather options in black or brown, depending on the chosen exterior color. It comes with a six-year or 200,000 km warranty. Market launch for this battery-electric double-cab pickup is scheduled for January 2025.
