Perodua’s First EV to Launch in 2025, Priced Below RM100k.

Get ready to go electric without overspending! Perodua’s first EV will be priced under RM100,000, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the 2025 national budget presentation (Belanjawan 2025) at the Dewan Rakyat

Though more details weren’t shared, many believe the EV will be based on the Perodua EMO-I concept car, which was shown at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024. The concept is like an electric version of the Myvi, giving a hint of what this exciting new car might offer.

The EMO-I concept uses a front-wheel-drive electric motor that makes 163 hp and 315 Nm of torque, letting it go from 0 to 100 km/h in 7 to 9 seconds.

It can travel up to 400 km on a full charge, thanks to its 57.6 kWh battery. Charging with an AC charger (11 kW) takes about 5 hours and 15 minutes, while a DC fast charger (50 kW) can fully charge it in just 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Interestingly, Perodua is working on its first EV with support from an unnamed “international automotive company,” rather than (or possibly alongside) Daihatsu, according to a social media post by Minister of International Trade and Industry, YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Bin Tengku Abdul Aziz.

While earlier reports mentioned that mass production of the Perodua EV would start in 2025, Prime Minister Anwar did not confirm the timeline during budget announcement.
