Omoda C9 to Hit Malaysian Market in December – 2WD & AWD Variants Starting from RM185k.

In anticipation of its upcoming launch, Jaecoo Malaysia hosted a media preview of the Omoda C9, a mid-sized D-segment SUV. The official launch is scheduled for December this year, offering two variants: a 2WD and an AWD model.

Known as the Exeed RX or Yaoguang in China, the Omoda C9 is a five-seater mid-size SUV built on the M3X platform. First unveiled in February 2023, the SUV measures 4,775 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,671 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. This makes it larger than the Honda CR-V, and comparable in size to models like the Proton X90 and Chery Tiggo 8 Pro.

The Omoda C9 has a stylish and modern look, with sleek lines, slim LED headlights, LED taillights, a sloping roof, a powered tailgate, and four exhaust tips. It also features pop-out door handles, similar to the Range Rover Velar, showing Chery's design influence from its partnership with Jaguar Land Rover.

In terms of performance, the Omoda C9, set to launch in Malaysia, is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It produces 257 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, driving the front wheels. The SUV offers Normal, Sport, and Eco driving modes, while the AWD model adds Off-Road, Snow, Mud, and Sand modes for more versatile driving options.

Both versions of the Omoda C9 have a modern interior, with a floating center console between the front seats and a large 24.6-inch screen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes a head-up display, paddle shifters, a 50W wireless charger, touch-sensitive door handles, multi-colour ambient lighting that changes with the mood, and three-zone air conditioning with a built-in fragrance system. The rear seats can be adjusted electrically and have a heating option.

The AWD model adds a 14-speaker Sony sound system and headrest speakers for the driver. More details about the Omoda C9’s features will be announced at its launch.

For safety, the Omoda C9 includes the brand’s Level 2.5 advanced driving assistance system (ADAS). This system features Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Front Collision Warning (FCW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), a Driver Monitoring System (DMS), and Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK). It also has a digital video recorder (DVR) and a 540-degree surround-view camera.

Besides the Omoda C9, Jaecoo has also shown the J8 in Malaysia, which is expected to launch by the end of 2024. Since both SUVs target the same market, it will be interesting to see how Chery distinguishes the two models for buyers.

You can now register your interest for the Omoda C9, which is expected to cost under RM200,000. The 2WD model is estimated to be around RM185,000, and the AWD model is expected to be priced at RM195,000. The Omoda C9 is likely to be launched in December this year.
