2024 Mitsubishi Xpander Facelift MPV Now Available for Booking – Starting at RM115k.
Even if you’re not in the Klang Valley, you might not be aware that the Mitsubishi Xpander has been a tremendous success for Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM). Since its launch in late 2020, this seven-seater MPV has sold 40,000 units and been locally assembled for four years, averaging nearly 10,000 units per year. This impressive performace makes it the top-selling non-national MPV during this time.
Now, a new version is on the horizon. The 2024 Mitsubishi Xpander facelift is available for booking at an introductory price of RM115,000, but only for a limited time. The official launch is scheduled for later this month. Although this updated model has been available in Indonesia for a while, it's arriving here now because there's still a strong demand for an affordable, non-national MPV.
Unlike Honda Malaysia, which decided not to replace the BR-V and instead focus on the smaller WR-V, the Xpander’s main rival in Malaysia is the Toyota Veloz, priced at RM95,000. The Veloz is a more feature-rich version of the Alza and is the Xpander's closest competitor.
This facelift introduces several noticeable changes, starting with a bolder front design called the Dynamic Shield, featuring T-shaped LED headlights and thicker chrome bars. At the back, there’s a larger tailgate spoiler, new taillights that match the headlights’ design, and a more angular bumper with vertical reflectors. It also gets new two-tone 17-inch alloy wheels. This is the regular Xpander, not the more rugged Xpander Cross.
Inside, the dashboard has been revamped with a simpler, straighter look and brown leather trim, which is also on the door panels. There’s a freestanding touchscreen for the infotainment system and a new, simpler steering wheel with a round horn pad. Other new features include a digital air conditioning display with easy-to-use buttons, a wireless charger, and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, replacing the old handbrake and making more space for a center armrest. The car also comes with front and rear dashcams.
The Xpander comes with several convenient features like keyless entry, push start, a 4.2-inch color display between two analog dials, four USB ports (two in the front and two in the back), three 12V sockets (in the front, center, and third row), automatic climate control with rear air vents, and a steering wheel that adjusts for height and reach, with buttons for audio and cruise control. The 9.0-inch touchscreen supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and includes a reverse camera and a 360-degree camera.
For safety, it still only has two airbags and no advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which is lacking by modern standards. As for colors, you can choose from red, Quartz White Pearl, Diamond Black Mica, or the new Graphite Gray.
In terms of practicality, the Xpander has seven seats arranged in a 2-3-2 layout. The middle row has a one-touch fold feature, and the third row can fold flat in a 50:50 split. When folded, the trunk space is a generous 495 liters, which expands to 837 liters if you fold down the middle row as well.
When all seven seats are in use, the Xpander still offers decent boot space and has extra storage under the floor. Inside, there are useful storage spots like pockets behind the front seats and a tray under the front passenger seat.
The updated Mitsubishi Xpander, made locally in Pekan, is now available for booking at an introductory price of RM115,000. This special price is only available for a limited time, and it might go up later. The first 500 customers who book and register the Xpander online will get a free Naturehike Camping Wagon worth RM400. For comparison, the previous model was priced at RM100,980 without insurance.
