JPJ Replaces AES Speed Cameras with New AWAS System Due to Manufacturer Support Issues.

The Automated Enforcement System (AES) cameras on Malaysian highways are being upgraded to the new Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS). One such upgrade has been spotted at KM17.2 of the ELITE highway, heading towards Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

This new setup features the Ekin Spotter, a versatile device that can be customized with different modules for various functions. For its role as a speed camera, the Spotter includes a speed sensor, a white flash strobe, and a surveillance camera module.

The Ekin Spotter can also be equipped with additional modules such as city and beacon lighting, audio speakers, antennas, and WiFi hotspots. According to the Ekin website, the Spotter delivers high-quality surveillance both day and night, covering extensive areas and capturing clear video.

Furthermore, the Ekin Spotter can utilize built-in sensors to detect environmental changes and can alert a central system if it detects unusual conditions, such as increased temperature, humidity, tampering, or unauthorized door access, as detailed on the company's website.
