2025 Proton X70 Facelift Unveiled: New Front Design, Larger Screens.

Earlier this month, we showed you the updated 2025 Proton X70, but Proton kept the price a secret until now. The good news is that the price hasn’t changed.

The X70 has always been known for its great value, and even with new competitors like Chery entering the market, Proton has kept the same prices for the X70. The facelifted model comes in four versions: Standard, Executive, Premium, and Premium X (which includes a panoramic sunroof). Prices are RM98,800, RM110,800, RM123,800, and RM126,800 respectively, on the road without insurance.

To celebrate the launch, there’s an early bird offer for the first 3,000 customers, including a RM7,000 cash rebate, RM2,800 trade-in support, and an upgrade to the Proton Insurance Programme. The standard warranty covers five years with no mileage limit and includes six free labor services. Plus, buyers will get a five-year data package with 1GB of data per month.

The facelift makes a big difference. It’s so extensive that updating an old model to look like the new one would be expensive. The most noticeable change is the bold new grille with Proton’s Infinite Weave design and diamond patterns. The new headlights are slimmer and more modern.

The updated front bumper and headlights ensure that the new X70 stands out from the old model. Additionally, the front fenders and bonnet have been redesigned to match the new grille and headlights. The hood now features a more sculpted design with two bulges in the middle.

The updated X70 also has some changes at the back. It looks like the 2022 Geely Boyue from the front, but the rear bumper now has horizontal reflectors and fake air vents, designed by Proton to make the SUV look wider. The tail lights are the same as before.

For the wheels, the facelifted X70 now comes with new designs: 19-inch two-tone wheels for the Premium and Premium X models, and 18-inch two-tone wheels for the Executive model.

Inside, the biggest update is a new dashboard panel that’s unique to Proton. It features a glossy black insert on the passenger side and has 72-colour ambient lighting that changes colors in sync with the music.

The X70 now has a bigger 12.3-inch touchscreen that runs on the new Atlas 2.0 system. It finally includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto! Wireless versions of these features won’t be available at launch, but the car is ready for them, and you’ll get a free update to add them later. The system’s hardware has been improved with more powerful processors, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage.

Other tech updates include a USB-C port on the passenger side of the center console, while the driver’s side still has a USB-A port. There are also USB-A and USB-C ports in the rear. The dashcam USB port has been moved to the right side of the windscreen for easier access. Overall, the X70 now has five USB ports.

The X70 now features the latest three-spoke steering wheel, similar to those in the X50 and S70, and Stone Grey Nappa leather upholstery with a new criss-cross stitching on the doors. The new color scheme is darker than the previous brown options (with black leatherette in the Executive model and black fabric in the Standard model). The 7.0-inch digital display is the same size as before but has updated graphics and redesigned fuel and temperature gauges for a more modern look.

For convenience, the X70 now has proximity locking and unlocking, which means it can automatically lock when you walk away and open the tailgate hands-free when you’re nearby, no more kick sensor needed. The gear lever has also been redesigned, with the park button moved and a new shift pattern.

In terms of advanced features, the X70 now includes Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capabilities, similar to the X50 and S70. This includes stop-and-go functionality, lane centering assist with adaptive cruise control, and traffic sign recognition.

The X70 comes with many safety features, including:

- Autonomous Emergency Braking
- Intelligent Cruise Control
- Lane Departure Warning and Prevention
- Lane Centering Control
- Lane Change Assist (blind spot monitoring)
- Rear Collision Warning
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Door Opening Warning
- Intelligent High Beam Control

However, these advanced features are only available on the Premium and Premium X models. Also, the X70 doesn’t have Automatic Parking Assist (APA), which is available in the X50 and X90.

Under the new hood, the X70 keeps the same 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine as before, which produces 177 PS and 255 Nm of torque. It sends power to the front wheels (no all-wheel drive) through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with manual mode.

The X70 is claimed to use 7.3 litres of fuel per 100 km, which is a 4% improvement over the 2022 model. This is due to better engine efficiency and reduced friction, along with improvements that make the ride quieter, such as a quieter AC compressor and additional soundproofing materials.

The X70 is well-equipped with features, except for the advanced safety systems (ADAS), which are only available on the Premium models. Here’s what you get:

- Powered and ventilated front seats
- Automatic dual-zone air conditioning with an air purifier
- Auto wipers
- Front welcome lights with the Proton logo
- Hi Proton voice command
- Remote control via the Proton Link app
- Electronic parking brake with auto hold
- 360-degree camera with a 3D view
- Tyre pressure monitoring
- Six airbags across all models

New for the Proton X70 2025 is Marine Blue (available only on the Premium and Premium X models), while the other colors—Ruby Red, Snow White, Armour Silver, and Jet Grey remain the same as the previous model.
