2024, 4 local cars will launch in Malaysia!!
1. Proton X70 MC2
Since its launch at the end of 2018, there haven't been many significant changes to the X70. The manufacturer introduced the 010 model in 2020 and a minor upgrade in 2022, mainly changing the engine. However, with the market seeing more new products, the X70's competitiveness has decreased, reflected in its sales numbers.
As a result, the manufacturer has put the X70 facelift on the agenda. It's reported that this time, there will be significant changes to the exterior design, and the option for the 1.81-liter turbo engine might be discontinued.
Details about other changes are not clear yet, but it's said that the new car will be unveiled in the first quarter of this year (January to March). There are rumors that deliveries may start before the Chinese New Year/Eid, so we can expect to see this car soon.
2. Proton X50 Facelift
In addition to the X70 facelift, Proton is also planning to introduce a minor upgrade for the X50 this year to enhance its competitiveness in the market. According to our sources, the focus will mainly be on exterior enhancements, such as adopting a new family-style design. The main improvement is expected to be the in-car infotainment system.
It's rumored that Proton might upgrade it to the same system as the X90, featuring a new processor, increased memory to 6GB + 64GB, and possibly supporting the latest version of Atlas OS. If it follows the X90's Atlas OS, it could include features like A-Store, allowing users to download apps themselves, including Spotify music streaming software. There's no news on the release date yet, but it's likely to be after the X70 facelift launch.
3. Perodua D66B SUV
Next year, Perodua is set to launch a new car codenamed D66B, which is a B-segment SUV built on the DNGA-B platform. The dimensions of the car measure 4,320 mm X 1,770 mm X 1,685 mm, with a weight of 1,283 kg. It's slightly larger than the Ativa.
The new SUV is expected to be equipped with a 1.5L Dual VVT-i naturally aspirated engine paired with a D-CVT transmission, delivering a maximum power of 104 Hp and peak torque of 138 Nm.
In terms of features, it's likely to come with a host supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with a comprehensive set of safety features including 6 airbags. Additionally, it may include Stop & Go, ACC (adaptive cruise control) with active speed control, lane-keeping assist system, automatic high beam adjustment, and automatic emergency braking.
Rumors suggest that the starting price for this new car could be around RM 73,000. It's expected to debut in the first half of the year, though there might be delays due to the recent Daihatsu scandal.
4. Perodua Ativa MC
Since its release, the Perodua Ativa has been consistently popular in our country. As early as the beginning of 2023, there were rumors of an upgraded version of the Ativa in the works, focusing on enhancements in details and features. For instance, it might include ACC functionality (which the current Ativa lacks), and its sensors could potentially be upgraded from the current dual-camera setup to radar sensors for improved detection accuracy.
Additionally, there are expectations for it to feature Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration and other enhancements. The minor upgrade was originally scheduled for release in 2023 but faced delays due to issues like component supply. However, it's anticipated that the car won't face further delays into 2024. It's expected to be unveiled as early as the first quarter of this year (January to March).
