Global Expansion: Proton S70 Set to Reach 20 New Markets Beyond ASEAN

Following the Proton S70's launch, Roslan Abdullah, Deputy CEO of Proton, stated in a press conference that the company aims to increase the Malaysian Tiger's export footprint in at least five new international markets.

Currently, Proton is exported to 15 countries including South Africa, Pakistan, Kenya, and Brunei. “We are exploring a few markets like the Middle East and we aim to add at least 5 new destinations to Proton’s current export plans,” Roslan said.

The Proton company's deputy chief executive officer revealed to the press that the company has only exported 2,500 units internationally in 2023, which is still a little amount. One of Proton's biggest overseas markets, Pakistan, is largely to blame for the drop in exports due to decreased demand.

According to Roslan, plans to export 10,000 Proton vehicles to Pakistan in 2023 were originally canceled due to the country's economic woes.

Regarding Proton's strategies for entering the significant ASEAN countries, such as Indonesia and Thailand, Proton CEO Dr. Li Chunrong stated that although those markets are enormous, entry is exceptionally competitive.

Proton, the CEO clarified, will instead concentrate more on markets outside of ASEAN.

Proton will have to form alliances with regional suppliers in order to price its models more competitively in Indonesia and Thailand or face higher import duties, Roslan had previously disclosed during the S70's media preview.
