Proton X50 Achieves Remarkable Milestone: Over 100,000 Units Sold in Just 3 Years, Earning the Title of Malaysia's Swiftest-Selling SUV.

According to Proton, since the X50 SUV's launch 36 months ago, sales have surpassed 100,000 units (100,210 precisely), making it the most well-liked B-segment SUV in the nation.

It's the fastest-selling SUV in Malaysia, according to the national automaker, which even goes so far as to assert that this is "the shortest time it has taken for any SUV to achieve the benchmark in Malaysia." This follows the delivery of 2,021 X50 units in October 2023, bringing the total number of units delivered this year to 26,981.

According to Proton's official tally, the X50 had a very poor start to 2020, selling just 3,787 units between October 27 and the end of the year. Back then, early adopters like me had to wait months to get their new autos. In 2021 and 2022, production increased dramatically, resulting in sales of 28,774 and 40,681 units, respectively. Yes, the total adds out to 100,223 rather than 100,210, but Proton is quoting that amount for the time being.

However, it must be acknowledged that the Proton X50 is in serious need of an update. After a phenomenal 2022, its sales statistics seem to be slowing off as well, and it is already a few update cycles behind its Geely Binyue/Coolray donor model. The latter is to be expected for a model that is now three years old, but there is a pressing need for an exciting update.

Anyway, give credit where credit is due, and join me in extending heartfelt congratulations to the Proton X50. The fastest-selling SUV in Malaysian history—quite an accomplishment.
